BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 P.M.) – Just days after the IL-20 reconnaissance aircraft was downed over the Latakia coast, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that they will be delivering the S-300 missile defense system to Syria.

In a new statement released by Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu, Russia will be delivering the S-300 system to Damascus as part of a new security measure after the downing the of the IL-20 plane.

“In 2013 on a request from the Israeli side we suspended the delivery to Syria of the S-300 system, which was ready to be sent with its Syrian crews trained to use it,” the statement said.

“The situation has changed, and not due to our fault,” Shoigu added.

Moscow accused Israel of failing to inform Russia about its impending attack on targets in Syria, which resulted in a downing of the Russian electronic warfare aircraft by Syrian’s return fire.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the defense ministry to take several measures in response to the incident, the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Ohhhh yesss… It’s not a surprise though. We all saw this coming after that incident. This is the least Russia could do. I guess Israel will have to up their game if the want to continue their violations of foreign states airspace (Lebanese and Syrian) for that matter. So we will finally assess how these S300+ systems fair against the likes of F35s. #Game#on.

gzman501 .

Putin gave the Israelis all the rope they needed to hang themselves and they did. Thanks, Nutsack, your crimes have come back to kiss you. Hopefully you will be helpful in testing the in-effectiveness of these against your invincible forces. Then you too can address the parents and loved ones of your dead airmen and say ‘I did this’.

This is very good news and very big news. A measured and devastating response to Israel’s criminal antics. This doesn’t make it impossible for Israel to strike Syria once these systems are operative, but it makes it very very complicated and dangerous and hard for aircraft to do it- at the very least. It also makes it very hard for missiles if they are fired to reach their target. The things that Israel and their gang have done have really only shifted the balance of military power against them. Nonetheless, Israel may well seek to destroy these systems on the… Read more »
