BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:20 P.M.) – The Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday afternoon that slammed the recent Israeli missile strike on Damascus.
In a statement published Saturday, the Ministry said it had dispatched letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the chief of the UN Security Council in connection with Friday night’s unprovoked attack on Damascus.
Israel is able to continue to get away with attacks against Syria only because it is protected by the US, Syria’s Foreign Ministry added.
The Israeli Air Force launched dozens of missiles towards the Damascus International Airport area last night.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Israeli missiles targeted a weapons depot that was located in the vicinity of the airport.
The source said some of the Israeli missiles managed to hit their intended target, causing a powerful explosion that could be felt throughout the Syrian capital.
These strikes by the Israeli Air Force marks the first time since Christmas that they have targeted a site inside Syria.
