BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:40 P.M.) – The son of ex-Central Intelligence Service (CIA) agent and former Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has called on Muslims around the world to take up arms and wage jihad in Syria.
Osama bin Laden’s son, Hamza bin Laden, very recently spoke via Al-Qaeda media asking Muslims to join the terrorist group and show solidarity-in-arms with the Syrian people.
Hamza proclaimed that Al-Qaeda stood with the people of Syria and that they would continue to fight the Assad government.
Hamza’s father and one of his brothers were killed during a raid by a United States Navy SEAL team in northwest Pakistan in May 2011.
His father is accused of masterminding the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks and of being the leader of Al-Qaeda which was designated as a terrorist group following the attacks.
During the Soviet-Afghan War (1979-1989), Osama bin Laden, a Saudi national from an established family, was employed by the CIA to fight Soviet forces – one of his most successful roles was recruiting other jihadists in the Middle East to join the Afghan Mujahideen.
