BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:42 P.M.) – Moments ago, reports came in that Russian Ground Forces troops entered the Koneko Gas Field and its attached company headquarters area in eastern Deir Ezzor province at the invitation of Kurdish-led forces.

The information, disseminated by Syrian military reports, claims that an agreement has been brokered between Russia and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces whereby the Syrian government will be allowed to assume control over the gas field.

If true, then the scope of any backdoor agreements reached between Moscow and Washington regarding the transfer of energy assets held by Kurdish-led militias back to the rightful ownership of the Damascus government may yet encompass wider dimensions (i.e. future transfers) – although there is absolutely no evidence to suggest this is in fact the case.

Nonetheless, the unexpected transfer of the Koneko Gas Field by the SDF to the Syrian government does now raise questions as to whether or not the hitherto competition between the Syrian Arab Army and Kurdish-led militias to seize control of the much larger Al-Omar Oil Field from ISIS further south is still on.

The Kurds are doing the right thing.
Maybe they realize how fickle the Americans are.

It is completely false news to dissuade the Syrian government forces to let go of the Omar fields, since tge US/Zionist Kurdish mercenaries are a a disadvantage right now to beat the Syrian Army to them. The Kurds will not concede anything, no even Raqqa of Tabqa. The Syrian government forces need to get the Omar fields now, immediately. They should not believe the Russians.

The Syrian Kurds don’t want the same hassle as the Iraqi Peshmerga. The later was holding onto non-Kurdish assets in Kirkuk resulting in the Iraqi entering and pushing the Kurds further back than that city. Also, the Turks are forcing their way into N. Syria to really to garb Syrian territory and tackle the Kurds. I suspect the Syrian Kurds are willing to settle for greater autonomy under a Syrian regime that provides them with weapons and logistic help for the former to fight the Turks. That would also suit the Syrian regime as they won’t have to tackle the… Read more »

Is it real news, fake news, a combo of the two? It really doesn’t matter folks, cause there’s no way the Syrian government and its forces were ever going to allow the YPG to retain control of predominantly Arab populated lands outside of its pre-2013 predominantly Kurds populated areas, let alone its oil/gas fields. Once Syrian government forces got back on their feet in 2016, with the help of Russian, Iran and Hezbollah, Assad stated very clearly and in no uncertain terms that all Syrian lands would be recovered. Maybe it’s time for rational governments and people to starting taking… Read more »
