BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:10 P.M.) – Russian private military contractors have allegedly arrived in Venezuela, today, in order to beef up the security for President Nicolas Maduro, the Reuters News Agency reported.
Citing an unnamed source close to the Russian contractors, Reuters said that there was a whole contingent of military personnel that arrived in Venezuela today.
Yevgeny Shabayev, leader of a local chapter of a paramilitary group of Cossacks with ties to Russian military contractors, told Reuters that he had heard the number of Russian contractors in Venezuela may be about 400.
However, Reuters said that their other sources say the Russian contractors came in small groups.
“The contractors are associated with the so-called Wagner group whose members, mostly ex-service personnel, fought clandestinely in support of Russian forces in Syria and Ukraine, according to Reuters interviews with dozens of contractors, their friends and relatives,” they added.
