BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:20 A.M.) – The Russian Air Force let loose another powerful attack against the jihadist rebels in northwestern Syria, striking the stronghold of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham in the Latakia Governorate.
According to a military source in the Latakia Governorate, the Russian jets took off from the Hmeimim Airbase this morning and made their way to the jihadist-held areas in the Jabal Al-Akrad region.
The Russian jets would then unleash a powerful attack on the jihadist bases inside the mountaintop town of Kabani, scoring several direct hits on the military installations of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
These airstrikes by the Russian Air Force were followed by heavy shelling from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), who was retaliating for the previous raids conducted by the special forces of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
Since the recent flare up of hostilities between the Syrian military and jihadist rebels in northwest Syria, the Russian Air Force has conducted well over 100 airstrikes in the Idlib, Hama, Aleppo, and Latakia governorates.
The Syrian Arab Army is preparing to launch a new offensive in the southern part of the demlitarized zone (Hama-Idlib axis); this operation is limited, but will seek to expel the jihadist and rebel groups from the area.
