The Russian Defense Ministry has denied all reports about establishing a new military base in Afrin, northern Syria.

“There are no plans to deploy new Russian military bases on the territory of Syria,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier reports came in that an agreement has been reached between Russia and the Kurdish YPG controlling Afrin in northern Aleppo to set up a military base in the city.

However, a new reconciliation center will be opened near the frontline separating the Kurds from the Turkish-backed fighters in order to observe the truce currently held there.
