BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:20 P.M.) – A powerful explosion was reported near a Turkish military post inside Afin city this afternoon, the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.
According to the SOHR report, the explosion occurred near a Turkish military post and was close to the site of the twin blasts earlier this week.
No further information was released regarding the blast.
The Turkish-backed rebels captured the strategic Afrin region earlier this year after launching a nearly three month long operation to expel the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) from the area.
Since expelling the YPG from the area, the Turkish-backed rebels have been repeatedly attacked by the Kurdish group’s sleeper cells inside Afrin city.
One such group carrying out this attack calls themselves the “Suqour Afrin” (var. Afrin Hawks); they have demanded all rebels and their family members leave the region or else they will kill them.
Suqour ‘Afrin was blamed for the recent attack on near the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) headquarters inside Afrin city.
