BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:05 P.M.) – Over 450 rebels have turned themselves into the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the Daraa Governorate, today, Syrian state-owned Al-Ikhbariya TV reported.

According to the Al-Ikhbariya report, the 450+ rebels surrendered themselves to the Syrian Arab Army in the town of Sha’arah.

No further details were released.

Last week, the Syrian Arab Army began their long-awaited southwest Syria offensive after failed peace talks with the rebel forces.

Since launching the offensive, the Syrian Arab Army has taken control of more than 420 square kilometers of territory in the northeastern countryside of Daraa.

Not an expert but rebels who reconcile are required to serve in Syrian National Defense Forces. They are not part of the SAA. These rebels can return to their home towns once their contract is completed.

What Assad do with them after surrendering ? Do they give them sometime to settle in in a separate region and then allow them to reintegrate with Syrian society ? Or they are just freed up immediately within Syrian territory ? Certainly they are not heading to Idlib.
