BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:15 A.M.) – A major militant group based in rebel-controlled areas of Damascus’ East Ghouta region has halted hostilities with the Syrian Army and begun negotiating with Russian military authorities.
The insurgent faction in question is Faylaq al-Rahman, a powerful Free Syrian Army affiliate militia; the group holds multiple district areas in what is now the southernmost East Ghouta pocket.
According to sources, Faylaq al-Rahman has – at least for now – halted military operations against Syrian government forces (who have responded in kind) and is now in talks with Russian arbitrators for the evacuation of the group’s fighters to northern Syria.
According to Al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Joudeh, a huge advance achieved by Syrian Army in the Faylaq al-Rahman controlled districts of Kafr Batna and Saqba on Saturday has served to bring the rebel faction to the negotiating table.
