BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:12 P.M.) – Kurdish paramilitary forces have shot down a Turkish military helicopter in the Afrin region of Syria according to both pro-Kurdish and official Turkish sources.
Moments ago, Turkish military sources confirmed earlier reports put forth by pro-Kurdish sources that Kurdish paras had downed a Turkish military helicopter near the village of Qude in Afrin.
At the present time it is unknown if the helicopter shot down was an attack or transport design. Pro-Kurdish forces claim that they will soon release footage of the engagement. If this happens it may help to clarify the type of helicopter.
Also unknown is how the Turkish military helicopter was shot down – e.g. whether it was struck with small arms, cannon or missile fire.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan personally confirmed the loss of the military helicopter, adding into his statement that the perpetrators of the attack would ‘pay a heavy price’ for their deeds.
