DAMASCUS, SYRIA (1:00 P.M.) – Moments ago, the predominately Kurdish ‘Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) imposed full control over the Romaniah suburb in northwestern Raqqa, thus securing their third consecutive neighborhood in less than a week.
With reports of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi killed in downtown Raqqa, the SDF followed up on earlier gains by fortifying the newly liberated Mashalab and Sabahiya districts to deter an ISIS counter-offensive.
Clashes in the Romaniah suburb lasted for roughly 20 hours and resulted in the death of 11 ISIS members while 7 of the jihadist corpses were retrieved by the SDF.
On the other hand, Amaq Agency published a series of photos showing anti-tank missiles striking SDF scouts, inflicting at least a handful of casualties on Kurdish fighters.
American airstrikes are also taking a heavy toll on the city of Raqqa and its inhabitants; footage released by the ISIS-linked Amaq Agency showed children with third degree burns and a city reduced to rubbles by the ongoing bombing campaign.
