BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:20 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels launched a new operation last night that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions in the northern countryside of Latakia.
According to a report from northern Latakia, the jihadist rebels captured Hill 428 in the Turkmen Mountains after infiltrating the Syrian military’s positions near the Turkish border.
No other details were released regarding the jihadist advance.
The jihadist rebels, in particular, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and the Turkestan Islamic Party, have a large presence in the Turkestan and Kurdish mountains of the Latakia Governorate.
Previously, the Syrian military attempted to clear the last remaining jihadist pocket in Latakia; however, they were unable to capture the key mountaintop town of Kabani, resulting in the end of their operation.
