Moments ago, an Israeli jet fired two longe-range ‘Popeye’ missile upon the government-held town of Al-Saboorah, west of Damascus.

The overnight explosions were so loud they could be heard by an Al-Masdar News field correspondent in downtown Damascus.

The jet did not penetrate Syrian airspace but did allegedly breach Lebanese airspace in order to come within striking range of its designated target.

Although mere speculation for now, the Israeli airstrike likely intended to assassinate a senior Hezbollah figure due to Al-Saboorah’s proximity to the Damascus-Beirut Highway, a main road often used by the Lebanese resistance movement.

On Monday, the Israeli Air Force also conducted an airstrike in the Syrian Golan Heights, targeting the ISIS-affiliated Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade.

UPDATE: The latest report (not confirmed by Al-Masdar’s military sources) suggests the missiles struck a Hezbollah workshop for vehicles. No casualties reported as mechanics had retired for the night.

Some disturbing points in this article! “The jet did not penetrate Syrian airspace but did allegedly breach Lebanese airspace in order to come within striking range of its designated target.” => The Popeye I&II have a 78km range. – Al-Saboorah is 43km from Majdal al-Shams (Israeli Golan Heights) and 55km from Dafna in Israel. Why breaching the Lebanese airspace while they can shoot it from Israel? – I don’t know the price of the Popeye but the MBDA Hammer can be compared and its cost is 164k€. As it’s a joint ventur between Rafael, TAI and Lockheed, as some parts… Read more »

It is an Israeli attack to test Syrian air defense…its a fast attack as many Israeli jets are flying above Haifa monitoring fire..so they can entry in lebanese airspace an shot missile…by the way the last attack of Popeye missile from israeli airspace was failed as Panstsir and Buk missile shot down four Popeye missile launched by F-15 toward Damascus airport!

You’re a NATO and Zionist regime criminals apologist and all what makes you throw sensible comments from time to time (because of the particular context where Islamic barbarians are involved) is none but your hatred toward Islam and Muslims.
