BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS) activated their sleeper cells inside the Idlib Governorate, tonight, targeting several areas controlled by the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.

According to pro-opposition activists, the Islamic State began their massive assault by targeting Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions around the town of Baliyoun, which is just south of Ariha.

The pro-opposition activists added that the Islamic State took full control of Baliyoun after killing more than ten Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham fighters inside and outside this small Idlib Governorate town.

Meanwhile, in northeast Idlib, the Islamic State began storming Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s checkpoints near the strategic town of Saraqib.

Intense clashes are now ongoing outside of Saraqib and several other towns inside the Idlib Governorate; this is considered the largest attack by the Islamic State since their brief offensive in 2017.

ISIS appears to be attempting to establish a foothold inside the Idlib Governorate after losing a lot ground to both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
