ISIS militants have reportedly shot down a US A-10 Thunderbolt jet aircraft in Markadah town, located nearly 100 km to the south of Al-Hasakah.

Zen Adra | AMN

According to the group’s social media account, Aamaq Agency, US fighter jets pounded the wreckage of the plane where it was downed.

The fate of the pilot is still unknown.

The United States is helping the Kurdish militia in northern Syria fight the terror organization.

In neighboring Iraq, US forces are taking part along with Iraqi Army and paramilitary fighters in the battle to oust ISIS outside the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

You don’t need a ManPADS (and not mapad’s as the S stands for System) to shoot down an Aircraft. In fact, the most destructive AA system ever built is the ZSU-23-4 Shilka, in other terms, 4*23mm Russian auto-cannons coupled with a radar on an APC. Well an A-10 can stand 23mm hits but not for too long… Now a ManPADS is less likely to down an A-10 because everything is doubled, the jet exhausts are diverted OVER the tail and placed in a way that if one is hit, the other will go on… Something more dangerous than the Shilka… Read more »

If it was on orders of some corrupted by the al-Saoud politicians that this pilot acted as Daesh-AF in Deir-Ezzor I’d rather agree. As in this case it was a REAL USAF mission helping Rojava into eradicating cockroaches, I can’t agree.

Hestroy : reality is more complex than black or white. The thing is we have very different perceptions of reality. Yours is Manichaeist, mine, although I like to do some humour, is more a geopolitical view and recoupment. I’m not seeing things as a football match, sorry to displease you.

Reports of U.S. A-10 being shot down over Syria are false. All coalition aircraft are accounted for.-Peter [email protected]
Now, if we rely on al-Amaq, they shot down about 300 USAF aircrafts in 2 years and the Warthog is made to take serious hits so… let’s wait if they show us any wreckage… Then analyse the pictures because for now, more airplanes were downed into Syria by mechanical failure than by AA fire, hehe

Nope, most of murican you may meet are really nice people and want as much as you and me to see all these rabid rodent from both Qaeda and Daesh simply meet their “God” ASAP. Now it’s very sad that there are very corrupted politicians and rich corps which manage to more or less hijack the federal state but not totally and there are counter-powers which internally manage to circumvent this in order to do things right. You had exactly the same kind of issues in USSR : basicly, communism is a very generous ideology, some evil people transformed it… Read more »

Killary knows what the acronym M.A.D. means and all the wargames you may try with Russia in the balance would end this way. A war is only interesting if you make money out of it. It’s the salafists who dream about launching a war between Russia (or China) and the US.

I think you’re very ignorant about how my country’s leaders think. And have always thought, see for instance http://www.maryferrell.org/pages/Essay_-_Did_the_US_Military_Plan_a_Nuclear_First_Strike_for_1963.html. More to the point you’re ignorant about their arrogance and ignorance. It isn’t simply a cavalier attitude toward a nuclear war (which they still believe, just as they did in the 60’s, can somehow be ‘won’), but their ignorance in how far they think they can push things without it escalating into a full-blown nuclear exchange. The US still maintains a first-strike policy, and believes it can get away with tactical nukes. It assumes its opponents operate under the same ‘logic’… Read more »

LOL, very interesting but…you should have red the full article as further it was said : “That briefing confirmed, however, the harsh facts [Kennedy] already knew: (1) that neither the Soviet Union nor the United States could ‘win’ a nuclear war in any rational sense of the word; (2) that, except to deter an all-out Soviet attack, our threat of ‘massive retaliation’ to every Communist move was no longer credible, now that it invited our own destruction; and (3) that a policy of ‘pre-emptive first strike’ or ‘preventive war’ was no longer open to either side, inasmuch as even a… Read more »

Yes – many nice understanding people. And then there is a state and a nation that lives off its military industrial complex and a hegemony that gives its currency the ability to finance war by printing money. Plus housing and posh cars for the electorate as perks. 😉

The 1st business on Earth is armament, the 2nd id (was?) oil, the 3rd being illegal drugs… Even Swiss or Sweden, despite being neutral countries , are huge arms sellers.
The military industrial complex must not be very happy about Obama : he shrank the defence budget by near 200bln$, well, some turmoil in the mid-east helps compensating the losses…
