According to a bulletin released by Amaq Agency moments ago, ISIS militants have downed a Russian chopper near Huwaysis, an oil-rich region northwest of Palmyra.
Al-Masdar News is not able to independently verify the claim and thus, the fate of the Russian pilots allegedly downed is unknown for now.
The Russian Ministry of Defence has not yet addressed the story.
However, ISIS and other Syrian jihadist groups have downed Russian warplanes several times in the past, most recently in July 2016 when Amaq Agency promptly released footage of the incident which led to the death of two Russian pilots.
During the liberation of Palmyra last year, Russian Mi-24 Hind Helicopters played a key role in expelling the Islamic State from the historic site.
