According to a bulletin released by Amaq Agency moments ago, ISIS militants have downed a Russian chopper near Huwaysis, an oil-rich region northwest of Palmyra.

Al-Masdar News is not able to independently verify the claim and thus, the fate of the Russian pilots allegedly downed is unknown for now.

The Russian Ministry of Defence has not yet addressed the story.

However, ISIS and other Syrian jihadist groups have downed Russian warplanes several times in the past, most recently in July 2016 when Amaq Agency promptly released footage of the incident which led to the death of two Russian pilots.

During the liberation of Palmyra last year, Russian Mi-24 Hind Helicopters played a key role in expelling the Islamic State from the historic site.

Playing small unilateral truces while leaving allies in Aleppo without airstrikes support. In return the terrorists, they are not playing, they shoot real guns and shoot to kill. It is time for Russia to fight seriously, without concession of any kind.

Syria and Russia are enticing the terrorists to concentrate their forces into a “kill zone” so that they can be annihilated. See if the Anglo-American Empire and its client states don’t get a nasty surprise just in time for the American Elections. Besides, Russia is still waiting for the arrival of their naval reinforcements to Syrian waters.

@Chris Tomson : “in the past, most recently in July 2016 when Amaq Agency promptly released footage of the incident which led to the death of two Russian pilots.” => Didn’t you red my advice at this moment? Just open the video full screen and make it run slower : they downed NOTHING at this moment : you CLEARLY see a S-8 rocket misfiring then being ejected backwards and hitting the tail and exploding. Now, I agree the Russian said the chopper has been downed and thus did a nice ceremony to the martyr of their officers but the truth… Read more »

Can’t understand why it is taking so long for SAA and Russia to recover lands taken by ISIS. I think it’s just unbeleivable. 1 year to take 1 km.

Because Qaeda/FSA/MB/AKP are much more equipped, numerous and aggressive and Daesh being contained, they treat the biggest problem first.

Normally, an army is better equiped than “rebels”. Maybe if Putin will had sold S-300 to Syria, maybe all that will have never happen. What do you expect from an Israeli lover that had betrayed the syrian people ?

Putin is just saving his bases.

I meant Qaeda is more equipped and has more troops than Daesh in Syria. S-300 has nothing to do with this conflict : Syria ain’t under air-attack, except the case in Deir Ezzor, you’d really notice if USAF was REALLY attacking SAA or SyAAF : even if may unplease some to read this, it simply would be devastating. Now, S-300 are on order, there are already about 50 Pansirs, some S-200 have had their seekers upgraded to actual standards and thus, are also VERY dangerous especially that the upgrade has the same serious radar actual S-300 has. Now, add the… Read more »

>it’s even the Russian-Israelis who made the country a spearhead in everything hi-tech.> – You say this s**t because of single reason: You are jew yourself. Absolutely blatant lies in favor of jewish state. All jews leaved Russian labs with high tech know-how stolen and taken to USA. All of them were rewarded with jewish refugee status. I met those kind of talents here in USA when forked for NASA. Spoil Egyptians is an eternal jewish principle. But that was great cleansing of Russian intellectual society. Now there are only jewish oligarchs still undermining Russian World. Yes, Putin has to… Read more »

If Russia and Assad can’t protect syrian people. Maybe they will leave and let China and a Syrian nationalist be in charge in Syria. Can’t understand why Russia is still cooperating with USA concerning Syria.

Seems like Russia likes to please USA.

Russia needs time to recover and rebuild their army. NATO is still much stronger than Russia. Russia acts very carefully, but they really could bombard more and finally destroy those wahhabi retards.

Russia is a poor ally. Why does Russia refuse to sell S-300 to Syria ? To please Israel. Syria has a weak army because Russia never helped them in the past by giving good weapons and training them despite the military bases provided by Syria to Russia.

In fact, if Russia had sold Syria S-300, Syria would have been able to destroy any foreign aircraft.

Fortunaletly, Hezbollah has helped a lot and since the beginning.

You sure Syria wants to pay for S-300? Or you think that Syrians can operate it better than Russians? Russians do not want their systems to get misused in shaky hands of Syrian newbies. Russia does not help enough! Russia covers Syrian havens now. And if Russians do not shoot alliance’s jets on first occasion that does not mean Syrians would do that with great result if had S-300 in abandons.

China only provides medical help (and probably cheap weapons too), thus, they sold M-PADS to KSA (and Dong-Fengs too!), most of M-PADS you’ve seen in the hands of FSA/Nusra etc were Chinese ones and if Saudis couldn’t have ordered 15k TOWs from Raytheon, don’t worry, KSA would have bought ATGMs from the Chineses. while wahhabists are pushing Chinese Muslims to jihad… Thus, Chineses already helped the Talebans during the 80’s too… You know, you probably could be at war against China and buy weapons from them at the same time! If you think China has no imperialist goals, you may… Read more »

Just like Hezbollah and China, never rely on a foreign country to defend yours. It’s the baddest startegy to adopt.

Video was posted : they f*****g downed nothing!
The chopper was landed, you don’t see its rotor turning and they probably shot on it with a howitzer or a tank : you hear a cannon crack and no missile plume

As usual, Amaq is talking bullshit, thus, it sucks : such choppers value between 10 and 15M$. Hopefully, seems nobody was harmed.
