The so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” (ISIS) have captured the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmor) in the eastern part of Homs province after main contingent of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) withdrew from the city. The aforementioned terror group claimed this through its media affiliate, ‘Amaq agency’. A bit late, military sources speaking to Al-Masdar News confirmed this information.

The militants consequently captured Al-Amariyah district and a hilltop of the same name, Officers Housing complex, and the Citadel of Palmyra, which made any further attempts to hold positions inside the city completely senseless.

According to several reports, some SAA units still remain in the city providing cover to their comrades that retreat westwards. After retreat is complete these units will withdraw as well.

More details to come……….

They stay in Alepo. Palmyra is not the priority. Western part of the Aleppo city is.

Spearheading the renewed government troops’ offensive in Aleppo are units from the elite Tiger Forces division who, unlike some rumours claimed, still stay in the city planning to finish the Aleppo military operation before redeployment to Palmyra front. ( From aleppo article )

Hope so but still after its full liberation they will continue the operation. Surely a buffer zone is needed around this big city at its western flank.

This is why they can’t do cease fires in Aleppo. They have a lot of man power tied up there and if they aren’t attacking they are being wasted when they are needed else where.

Each time the EU, US, UK call for a sieze fire and gets it, something like this happened. The west knew Aleppo was gone even obama admit it, all that noise was a distraction to get those ISIS fighters in place.

Do you really think that diplomatic noise at the UN nobody, even not those who do such noise, cares about as everybody knows this is pure bullshitting (hey, westerners don’t want to f**k up the money they make selling weapons in GCC! Look the gigantic contracts signed in 2015-2016! They want their petrodollars back!), so, in which way do you think this could be linked to any tactical or strategic action, especially a Daesh one as this group has even became a pain in the a*s for Turkey and the Saudis… What we have there is simply a few thousands… Read more »

Note that the cockroaches have been unable to mount any coordinated offensive for more than a year. Some have really fucked up at intelligence level!

I searched countable Persian websites. 4000 not 300. Most are those who escaped from Mosul.

Very difficult to get realistic information, even id we try hard. 300 can never be enough for attacking hard at least 4 places. My – GUESS could be 2.000 was needed and Persia sometimes has inflation.
