BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:15 P.M.) – The so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) launched a surprise attack in the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate tonight.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Islamic State attacked the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions along the western bank of the Euphrates near the cities of Hasarat and Al-Mayadeen.
However, despite their best efforts to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses, the Islamic State was ultimately forced to withdraw across the Euphrates River after they were spotted by the government forces.
During the brief battle, the Syrian Arab Army suffered at least a half dozen casualties, while killing more than ten Islamic State terrorists in the process.
This failed infiltration attempt by the Islamic State comes just hours after their forces lost more territory to the Syrian Arab Army in the Al-Safa region of southern Syria.
