BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:15 P.M.) – For the first time during this seven year long war, the Islamic State (ISIS) affiliate “Jaysh Khaled bin Walid” has launched a powerful attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in western Daraa.
According to a military source in Daraa, Jaysh Khaled bin Walid repeatedly targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s positions with grad missiles and artillery at the strategic town of Sheikh Miskeen.
The ISIS affiliate was able to hit several military targets in the large town of Sheikh Miskeen, resulting in a number of casualties for the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF).
This ISIS attack comes just days after the Syrian and Russian air forces hammered their positions in the Yarmouk Basin region of southwest Daraa.
Jaysh Khaled bin Walid has been active in western Daraa and southern Al-Quneitra for several years now, despite being isolated from their allies in eastern Syria.
The ISIS affiliate is now within striking distance of the Syrian Arab Army, following the reconciliation deals that were established inside the towns of Da’el, Tafas, and ‘Ibtaa in northern Daraa.
While the terrorist group’s expulsion from this region of the country is imperative, the Syrian Army’s operations against them are currently limited due to the fact they are mostly surrounded by the rebel forces.
