The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a full-scale offensive at the village of Al-Maba’ouji near the Youth Housing Camp in the Al-Salamiyah District of Hama.
According to a military source, ISIS began their offensive at 2:30 A.M. Damascus Time on Tuesday morning, attacking multiple checkpoints surrounding Al-Maba’ouji before they were able to infiltrate the National Defense Forces (NDF) positions.
Following their initial attack, ISIS took control of the southern half of Al-Maba’ouji before their progress was forestalled by the NDF and Ba’ath Battalion around 6:45 A.M. Damascus Time.
The initial losses for the NDF was estimated at 18 soldiers; however, this is currently unconfirmed – the field source was not able to give an exact number of dead ISIS fighters.
The fighting is still ongoing, with the NDF maintaining their positions in the northern part of the village, as the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) pounds the ISIS militants in the south with merciless airstrikes.
