BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:10 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army continued their large-scale advance in southeast Syria, today, seizing more ground from the Islamic State (ISIS) in eastern Al-Sweida.
Backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) of Al-Sweida, the Syrian Arab Army pushed deeper into the Islamic State’s desert heartland this afternoon.
According to a military source in Al-Sweida, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate Wadi Shatayeb Suleiman, along with Tal Thawa, Soum Al-Majeidi, Aradi Al-Juways, and Wadi Al-Sahel.
The Syrian Army is now attempting to take control of several other areas still under the Islamic State’s control in the Badiya Al-Sham region of eastern Al-Sweida.
This latest operation in eastern Al-Sweida was restarted on Sunday, when the Syrian Army announced the start of their Badiya Al-Sham offensive’s second phase.
Since launching the second phase of this operation, the Syrian Army has managed to liberate several areas that were under the Islamic State’s control, including many valleys and canyons.
The ultimate goal of this offensive is to eliminate the last remnants of the Islamic State in the Badiya Al-Sham region and restoring security to the vast Syrian Desert.
