BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:00 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS) launched a major attack inside the southeastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate, today, targeting the strategic border-city of Albukamal near Iraq’s Al-Anbar province.

Using a plethora of suicide bombers, the Islamic State was able to fracture the Syrian Arab Army’s lines around Albukamal, paving the way for their forces to enter the city for the first time in several months.

According to a military report in the area, the Islamic State managed to overrun the Syrian Army’s first line of defense in the eastern part of Albukamal, which led to the ongoing clashes that are taking place near the city-center.

With the majority of their forces in the Badiya Al-Sham region, the Syrian Army was undermanned and poorly prepared for this attack, despite the fact they faced a similar attack earlier this week.

If the Syrian Army loses Albukamal, there is a good chance that their Badiya Al-Sham operation will be put on hold, as they will need to drive back the terrorist forces.

How can this tiny remaining pocket of ISIS launch such a powerful attack when the American “coalition” with its claimed 74 nations surrounds it? Why has this tiny ISIS pocket not been expunged long ago by the Americans who claim to be fighting ISIS?

It does appear clear that the Syrians need to secure the Badiya and the Euphrates and put a ring of steel around al-Tanf and al-Zuqf before embarking on a large-scale operation in Daraqa.
