BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:36 P.M.) – ISIS has announced that Tabqa Dam in Raqqa’s western countryside is on the verge of collapse.

The dam has stopped activity because of damage to the main electrical feed, bringing all equipment and dam sections completely out of service. All the flood gates to the dam have been closed.

ISIS claimed this is because of heavy US-led airstrikes and artillery bombardment.

They then went onto claim that there has been a great increase in water levels confined by the dam.

ISIS are not able to send maintenance teams to the dam because of the intense US-led bombings in the area.

The breaking of the dam would be catastrophic to the surrounding region as well as a huge blow to Syria’s infrastructure.

IS is preparing another war crime to be blamed on others. This time the human shield are not hostages in a town but in a river valley. IS plan to hold hostage all people downstream. Implicit stop to bomb or the dam bursts. We have closed all flood gates in preparation of an “accident”. p.s. AFAIK Normal procedure is to open flood gates in anticipation of fights and any other possible damage. IS did the opposite. IS will blame the US “crusaders” and the Kurds to rally Sunni Arabs. BTW. If IS does flood the the downstream valley SDF will… Read more »

Saddam was near to blow all dams on Tigris and Euphrates in 2003. It’s the EC-130 Compass Call that prevented it! They first jammed all communications then called the destruction teams on their cellphones or radios and proposed briberies. Those reluctant were instead given the GPS coordinates of their houses and families. Seems it has worked. IS is absolutely capable to have mined the dam and ready to blow it, they don’t give a f**k about life even of their own fellows. Then, for sure, to blame it on someone else but anyone accustomed to ME politics knows that as… Read more »

The best outcome for IS. The “crusaders” had to use a dirty trick that killed many civilians. IS will pose as undefeated.

I don’t think we should trust them on this one. they always tend to lie to portray themselves like a wounded gazelle.

When you just wound an animal, shot twice, don’t leave it to suffer uselessly, it’s cruel.

If that happened, Raqqa would be submerged.
