Iranian state media have just reported that all 10 US Navy sailors have been released.
The sailors were detained by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard after their two small patrol boats had strayed into Iranian waters. They have been held in custody on a military base on Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf.
The US Navy’s Bahrain-based 5th Fleetare yet to confirm the claim by Iranian media.
Iranian military leaders have stated that detainment was the right decision to make.
“Our final finding was that it has not been a hostile crossover meant for espionage or the like,” General Ali Fadavi, revolutionary guards navy commander, said.
The foreign ministers of both countries, John Kerry and Mohammad Javad Zarif, had been in constant contact, Iranian media said.
