BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:20 P.M.) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Bahram Qasemi said that the recent remarks by a parliamentarian about the S-300 system were his personal position, not the official stance of the Islamic Republic.

Qasemi said at the news conference on Monday that the statements by the head of the National Security Foreign Policy Commission of Parliament (Majlis) Heshmatullah Falahatpisheh were not coordinated with the Iranian government.

“With all due respect, Mr. Falahatpisheh’s remarks are not the official stance of the Islamic Republic. The official position of foreign policy is expressed in the Foreign Ministry,” he said.

“I can emphasize that our relations with Russia are in all aspects well and we are discussing in bilateral, regional and international spheres as these talks continue,”Qasemi continued.

The high-ranking Iranian official said that in the coming weeks “we will have a large number of exchanges and consultations will continue between the two countries.’

“Finally, the source of Mr. Falahatpisheh’s words and the correctness and false nature of his words would be better to be expressed by him. Meanwhile, the subject is completely intelligence and military, and I do not need to answer this question,” he stated.

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
