DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:25 A.M.) – Five armed militants wrecked havoc in Tehran on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of 8 Iranians, including a security guard of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). At least 33 people have also been injured.
While two militants stormed the Iranian parliament and opened fire inside the building’s 4th and 5th floor, shooting also occurred at the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran where a third fighter detonated a suicide belt. At the latter site, a fourth militant was shot dead and a female assailant arrested.
A hostage situation is now taking place in the Iranian parliament where assailants wielding Kalashnikov rifles are on the loose. One militant has been arrested in the parliament hall thus far, leaving another to be apprehended. Pictures from the scene, including some of the militants peeking out of windows at the parliament:
Nevertheless, Iranian security forces have the situation under control and contained for now.
Meanwhile, Iranian intelligence said three attacks were planned, but one foiled before it managed to unfold. Four hostages are still being held in the Iranian parliament while safety has been restored to Khomenei Mausoleum.
