DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:45 P.M.) – The largest rebel group in Eastern Ghouta, Jaysh al-Islam, said it has concluded an agreement with Russia to evacuated the wounded fighters for treatment in government-run hospitals.
The Saudi-backed faction contacted the Russian side via the United Nation, an official statement posted by the group’s account on Telegram read.
In the meantime, more civilians are leaving the rebel enclave via safe corridors opened by the Syrian and Russian militaries.
In a related context, a Syrian military source said that Turkey had called on Ghouta militants to cease the fight against the Syrian Army and accept an evacuation deal to Aleppo countryside in Syria’s north.
Yesterday, the Syrian forces – supported by heavy Russian airstrikes – succeeded in slicing the longtime insurgent bastion into three separate parts.
