BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:39 P.M.) – Elite forces of the Syrian Arab Army have launched their final assault to seize a key jihadist-held airbase in eastern Idlib province. In recent hours they have succeed in reaching the gates of the military installation.
On Wednesday afternoon, assault units of the Syrian Arab Army’s elite Tiger Forces Division operating in the eastern countryside of Idlib province commenced the final phase of their operation to capture the Abu Duhur military airport from jihadist-led militias.
In rapid succession, Syrian troops captured the last towns and villages south of the key military site, these being identified as Tal Salmo, Al-Baiyaiyah, Al-Dabshiyah, Zafr as-Sagheer, Zafr Kabeer, Umm Jorah, Al-Buwyti, Rasm Ayed and Umm Jareen.
The advance puts the Syrian Army just one kilometer away from the Abu Duhur airbase and to this effect fire control with heavy weapons has already been established over the military installation.
