BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – Fierce clashes broke out this afternoon between two rival rebel factions inside the Afrin region of Aleppo, opposition activists reported via social media.

According to the reports, intense clashes broke out inside the Jandaris District of Afrin for unknown reasons.

Over the last two months, the amount of infighting among the Turkish-backed rebels has increased immensely, with some groups like Ahrar Sharqiyah being involved in multiple clashes with several groups.

The Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army captured the Afrin region from the People’s Protection Units (YPG) last March and since then, they have struggled to maintain order in this part of Aleppo.

There is nothing surprising about this. Warlord led gangs have always vied with other gangs for the ability to tax and loot in the areas they control for their ’employers’.

In this case it is Turkey who employs them.

Son bandas armadas o delincuentes que quieren obtener botín de guerra como premio saqueando al pueblo de Afrin (Siria)… Escuela de Erdogan.
