A massive explosion has rocked the Al-Rashideen area of west Aleppo where buses transferring residents from the Shia villages of Kefrayya and Fouaa were stationed and waiting to be moved towards government controlled areas of Aleppo city as part of a recent population transfer deal.
The first reports coming in on causalities put the death toll at 22 with another 48 injuries. All are civilians, and all are residents of either Fouaa and Kefrayya.
It appears that the explosion targeted the bus’ gathering area. It is highly unlikely that such an explosion could be put down to stray artillery fire and is most likely a deliberate act of terrorism. This being said, no group has yet claimed the attack, however many factions including Failaq al-Sham were against the deal that was signed and agreed upon by Ahrar Al-Sham and Tahrir Al-Sham (who represent larger power-brokers among the various Jihadist and Islamist groups in Idlib and west Aleppo).
Updates to follow.
