A Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) has exploded in the Ayn Al-Hulwe Palestinian camp in Saida, close to the southern Lebanese city of Sidon. The explosion killed Fatah official, Fathi Zaydan.
Fatah is a secular party and the strongest of the Palestinian Liberation Organization. No-one has taken responsibility for the assassination but preliminary reports suggest it was conducted by radical Islamist’s rather than Israel. Ground sources claim that clashes between Palestinian factions in the camp has intensified in recent times.
Palestinian camps in Lebanon run autonomously from Beirut since the 1969 Cairo agreement.
