BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:43 A.M.) – The Al-Qaeda-linked Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist group has launched a major assault on pro-government forces towards the city of Salamiyah in southern Hama Governorate.
The attack has been launched from inside Rastan pocket against defenses of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defence Forces (NDF).
Here, HTS stormed SAA and NDF positions at the outskirts of the town of Tal Darah in the western Salamiyah countryside.
Heavy clashes are ongoing around SAA and NDF checkpoints south of the town, and the army has so far called on artillery units and even airpower to suppress HTS assault infantry while reinforcements from Salamiyah city arrive to bolster government lines.
The last information provided to Al-Masdar News suggests that the SAA has suffered some injuries; no deaths have been reported yet. Causalities can be confirmed within HTS ranks due to the fact that SAA artillery and airstrikes have been observed to be making direct hits on their advancing infantry.
