A Brazilian who fought in Donbass with separatists against Ukrainian fascist forces has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Rafael Lusvarghi was nickednamed as the “Viking of Donbass” for always taking his Rune inscribed axe into battle and was known for his courage in fighting the Ukrainian junta forces.
During his capture and interrogation he was subject to torture and abuse which resulted in a broken leg as he was not willing to cooperate with junta authorities and speak about other people he termed as comrades.
Initially returning home with the signing of a truce between junta forces and the separatists, he returned to Ukraine with the offer of a fake job opportunity. The move was made as terms of the truce agreement should have safeguarded him.
The 32 year old was first arrested on October 6, 2016 at 9 am at Boryspil International Airport by the Intelligence Service of Ukraine on the grounds of Article 253-8 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.
They found on him an identification card of the Donetsk People´s Republic, a passport of the unrecognized republic, a laptop with messages exchanged with groups considered “terrorists” by the Ukrainian junta and a medal for his service in Donbass.
Brazil are yet to make an announcement on his prison sentence and whether they will try bring him home.
