The Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) have countered the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) offensive in the strategic city of Al-Ramadi, taking control of 2 vital areas in the east. Over the weekend, the ISF captured the Albu Hadeed and Albu Nasir Neighborhoods in eastern Al-Ramadi, killing scores of ISIS militants, while advancing west towards the city-center.
Continuing their success in Al-Ramadi, the ISF – backed by local tribes and militias – attacked the area of Ta’mim near the city-center, destroying a large ISIS hideout and killing their field commander of operations inside the city: Salaam ‘Abeed Al-‘Aliyaawi.
Southeast of the ISIS-held city of Mosul, the ISF’s 91st Brigade of the 19th Division – backed by the Peshmerga and local militias – captured 4 more villages in the Makhmour area. The following 4 villages were declared under Iraqi State Government control: Tal Al-Sha’eer, Jwayzat Tahtaani, Jwayzat Fuqaani, Sultan ‘Abdullah.
