BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:20 A.M.) – Islamic State terrorists and Syrian rebels have exchanged major blows in southern Damascus following an attempt by the latter to overrun the former’s positions.
According to pro-government sources observing developments in Damascus, on Friday, the Jaysh al-Islam armed Islamist faction carried out an infiltration operation against ISIS, attacking the terrorist group’s positions in the city’s southern districts.
Reports clarify that the attack took place in an orchards area between the Yalda and Hajjar As-Aswad neighborhoods with both Jaysh al-Islam fighters and Islamic State terrorist exchanging heavy fire.
ISIS appears to have been the loosing side in the battle that was with Jaysh al-Islam reportedly inflicting serious casualties on the terrorist group’s ranks – the exact number of losses was not specified.
When clashes do occasionally erupt between ISIS and rebel groups in southern Damascus, it is normally the former that initiates hostility rather than the latter making today’s engagement odd in nature.
