The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said during a press conference on Monday that the U.S. and Russia are not holding secret talks regarding the future of the Syrian President, Bashar Al-Assad.
Lavrov accused those spreading this rumor of attempting to disrupt the Geneva Peace Talks between the Syrian government and opposition.
“Statements on secret talks between Russia and the U.S. regarding Assad’s future are an attempt to disrupt the implementation of the U.S. Security Council’s resolutions.”
In addition to this statement, Lavrov also called on moderate groups in Syria to disassociate themselves from terrorists (i.e. Jabhat Al-Nusra and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham).
