The conglomerate of Islamist militias “Ansar Al-Shari’ah” has been unwilling to let-up on their persistent attacks in the Al-Zahra Association Quarter, despite the fact they have suffered significant casualties while storming the Great Prophet Mosque, the Air Force Intelligence building, Building 11, the Justice Palace, and the Aleppo Orphanage.
On Friday morning, not much changed for Ansar Al-Shari’ah, as they charged the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses at the Al-Zahra Association Quarter for the fifth time this week.
However, similar to the previous four attacks, the militants of Ansar Al-Shari’ah were unsuccessful in their infiltration attempt, as the Syrian Armed Forces pounded the encroaching Islamists, killing an estimated 30 enemy combatants and wounding another dozen fighters before they were able to secure the entire area.
According to a military source in the Aleppo Governorate, the clashes have dissipated in the Al-Zahra Association Quarter, with the Syrian Armed Forces in full control of the ground situation.
South of the Al-Zahra Association Quarter, the Syrian Armed Forces and the militants of the Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham exchanged rounds of gunfire of artillery shells at the Scientific Research Facility; however, both parties were unsuccessful in their repeated attempts to advance in this strategic building on the outskirts of the New Aleppo Quarter.
Meanwhile, in southern Aleppo, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and their allies from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen targeted Al-Hamidiyah from the western flank, resulting in violent clashes with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – the Islamists were unable to infiltrate and were forced to withdraw.
