For the fourth straight day, the conglomerate of Islamist militias “Ansar Al-Shari’ah” conducted a full-scale offensive inside of the strategic Al-Zahra Association Quarter in west Aleppo, where they attempted to penetrate through the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline positions at the Great Prophet Mosque, Judicial Palace, Building 11, Aleppo Orphanage, and the Air Force Intelligence building.
The Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra, and their allies from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen, led the charge on the Al-Zahra Association Quarter; however, their joint assault on this part of west Aleppo was met with fierce resistance from the Syrian Armed Forces, who repelled all of the enemy infiltration attempts on Tuesday.
According to a military source in the Aleppo Governorate, the Al-Qaeda linked fighters suffered heavy casualties during their failed infiltration attempt; this includes a number of foreign militants from Saudi Arabia, Chechnya, Turkey, Kuwait, Malaysia, Dagestan, and Uzbekistan.
Assisting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the defense of the Al-Zahra Association Quarter, the predominately Palestinian militia “Liwaa Al-Quds” (Jerusalem Brigades) and the Lebanese resistance organization “Hezbollah” did the brunt of the fighting at Building 11, killing over two dozen enemy combatants from Ansar Al-Shari’ah.
South of the Al-Zahra Association Quarter, the Syrian Armed Forces continued their besiegement of the Scientific Research Facility, attacking the militants of Ansar Al-Shar’iah from the eastern corridor of the building; however, firefights are still ongoing between the two opposing parties, despite the non-stop bombardment from the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) on the western corridor of the building.
