BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:00 P.M.) – A massive battle is taking place in southern Idlib between two rival jihadist groups that once fought alongside each other against the Syrian government in northern Syria.

Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (formerly Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra) launched a large-scale attack in southern Idlib this morning, targeting several areas controlled by Jabhat Tahrir Souriya.

According to preliminary reports from opposition activists on social media, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham to capture several towns in southern Idlib, including Sheikh Mustafa, Khan Sheikhoun, Moqa, Kafr ‘Ayn, Hish, Sahyan, and Sheikh Dams.

In addition to this advance, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham stormed the Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham (member of Jabhat Tahrir Souriya) stronghold of Ma’arat Al-Nu’man, which is the largest town in southern Idlib.

Intense clashes are now ongoing at this town, as Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham attempts to score a major advance – video below:

Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham has vowed to retake all the territory they recently lost in the past two months to Jabhat Tahrir Souriya.

Now is the moment Syrian government to stage a video (made in Damascus or wherever they please) with a bunch of kids killed in gas attack by either Tahrir Al Sham or Jabhrat Tahrir Suria. They can put some white helmets on some of the “doctors” and claim this attack took place in Southern Idlib. I’m not kidding. If I was Bashar Assad (praised to be his name!), I would do this. Just start playing “their” game…
