BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:10 P.M.) – The Idlib buffer zone is witnessing one of its most violent days as both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Islamist rebels trade hostilities.
According to a military source in northern Hama, the Islamist rebels began the hostilities, today, when they fired several artillery shells towards the Mhardeh Power Plant.
The Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Izza would then target several other government-held areas, prompting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to prepare to launch a counter-attack.
The Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division responded by firing several surface-to-surface missiles towards Jaysh Al-Izza’s trenches and bases in the key town of Al-Lataminah.
As the Syrian Arab Army was targeting the Islamist rebels, the Russian Air Force was conducting several reconnaissance flights over the Idlib buffer zone.
The Russian Air Force was likely collecting information about where the militant launching pads were located.
Once the launching pads are located by the Russian Air Force, the Syrian Arab Army often targets these rebel sites in order to eliminate them.
A similar attack like this was carried out on Friday morning, when the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division destroyed several launching pads that belonged to the jihadist rebels of Hurras Al-Deen terrorist group.
