The Islamic Front (Jabhat Al-Islamiyya) is facing complete encirclement in the provincial capital of Aleppo after losing more ground in the northeast sector of the city. Earlier today, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF) asserted their control over the remaining hills and main road to the Al-Castillo Roundabout that leads to the last militant supply line in the city of Aleppo.

If the SAA can capture the Al-Castillo Roundabout in northeast Aleppo, the militants from the Islamic Front – specifically, ‘Ahrar Al-Sham, Liwaa Al-Tawheed, and Ahrar Souria – will be forced to either accept a ceasefire, complete surrender, or the absence of imperative supplies to continue their fight against the SAA. At one point in 2013, the rebels were on the verge of capturing the whole city of Aleppo; today, they struggle to maintain what’s left of their early gains.

At the Old City of Aleppo, Islamic Front militants fired 4 gas canisters near the Aleppo Citadel’s security post, damaging its outer walls and nearby buildings. Recently, the SAA secured the road north of the Aleppo Citadel; however, the Islamic Front has responded with more mortar shells and gas canisters fired in the vicinity of this historical area.
