DAMASCUS, SYRIA (5:45 P.M.) – After seizing control of Maardes in northern Hama, a jihadist suicide bomber loyal to Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) blasted a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) checkpoint at Tall Abadah.
HTS claimed a Tiger Forces tank was immobilized by the SVBIED (suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device) attack which struck the aforementioned government-held hill some 1500 meters southeast of Maardes.
In addition, a Free Syrian Army affiliated faction posted a video showing the destruction of a 57mm SAA gun cannon position by an anti-tank missile launched on Mhardeh. Rebel forces also launched GRAD rockets on government-held areas of the Al-Ghab Plains.
On the other hand, the SAA scored an important advance of its own on another axis, entering the western gates of the Islamist stronghold of Halfaya on Wednesday.
Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham is composed of over a dozen newly merged jihadist factions, including Jabhat Al-Nusra, a Syrian group with close ties to Al-Qaeda.
