The Al-Qaeda linked “Al-Nusra Front” (Jabhat Al-Nusra) has attempted for the 2nd time in 48 hours to infiltrate into the recently captured village of Kafeer Yabrous on the border of Lebanon; however, their attack was met with fierce resistance by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), Hezbollah (Party of God), and the National Defense Forces (NDF).

The militants from the Al-Nusra Front were unable to break-through the loyalist’s frontline defenses at Kafeer Yabrous, due to the heavy casualties they sustained and their inability to achieve any progress in this area north of the besieged Al-Zabadani District.

According to a military source, 17 Al-Nusra Front fighters were killed during their attack on Kafeer Yabrous, including a number of enemy combatants wanted by the Lebanese authorities for their role in the militant group’s attack on the Lebanese Security Forces at the ‘Arsaal District in August 2014.

With the Lebanese Army targeting the Al-Nusra Front in ‘Arsaal, Hezbollah attacked a militant group that was caught attempting to enter the Qalamoun Mountain region from Jaroud Baldati in Lebanon. Hezbollah confronted the militant group at Assal Al-Ward, killing 7 of their fighters before they were forced to withdraw towards the Lebanese border.

South of Kafeer Yabrous, the loyalist forces continued their offensive in the Al-Zabadani District, targeting Liwaa Suqour Al-Zabadani (Falcons of Al-Zabadani Brigades) and the Al-Nusra Front militants near the northern quarter’s firehouse.

At the village of Hawsh Al-Farah in the East Ghouta, the SAA’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard (Harss Al-Jamhouri) was able to recapture most of the territory they lost to Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) in early December. Yesterday, the 105th Brigade conducted a number of raids on Jaysh Al-Islam positions in the southern part of the village, killing 11 fighters from the latter, including Nawaaf Al-Daheemi (Saud), Waasif Al-Tahaan, ‘Umar Dahaniyyeh, Khalil Bakaar, and Haatem Al-Fawaal.

The 105th Brigade ambushed a contingent of 12 fighters from Jaysh Al-Islam at the village of Al-Faroussiyyeh in the East Ghouta, resulting in the death of 4 militants, while also wounding 3 enemy combatants.
