On Wednesday morning, the National Defense Forces (NDF) carried out a series of operations in the Al-Hasakah countryside aimed at destroying the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s hideouts in the province. The specific areas targeted were the villages of Tal Barak and Tal Aswad; and the mountains of Jabal ‘Abdel-Aziz.
According to a military source, the NDF destroyed 3 pick-up trucks mounted with doshkas, while also killing scores of ISIS militants on the surrounding hills of Jabal ‘Abdel-Aziz. Firefights are still ongoing at Tal Barak; this area has seen the most fighting in Al-Hasakah over the last 2 days.
A well-known member of ISIS was captured by local security forces in the Al-Darbassiyyeh Quarter of the provincial capital yesterday. Ahmad Saleh Sheikh Ahmad was the apprehended ISIS member in possession of the Syrian Government – he is facing charges of terrorism, murder, and extortion.
The Captain of the NDF in the Al-Hasakah Governorate was the target of an assassination attempt in the Al-Qamishli District, when a van with masked men opened fire on his vehicle with multiple assault rifle rounds. Captain Bassam ‘Arsaan is currently in stable condition, with minor wounds to his to legs; most of the culprit’s bullets missed the target.
