BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:20 P.M.) – Militants were seen being fired upon after launching a rocket attack in the direction of Kabul’s presidential palace on Tuesday, in aerial footage released by the government press office on Wednesday.

The attack was carried out as President Ashraf Ghani delivered a speech to mark the beginning of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

According to authorities, one rocket landed near the presidential palace, where Ghani was giving his speech, and a second one near a NATO compound and the US Embassy.

After that, military helicopters reportedly fired at the assailants near Eidgah Mosque in Reka Khana district.

Afghan officials said the Taliban was behind the incident, but in a statement the militant group said it had not carried out the attacks. The self-proclaimed Islamic State later released a statement saying its fighters had launched mortar rounds at the presidential palace.
