BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:10 P.M.) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the US ambassador to Israel David Friedman “a son of a dog,” when speaking to Palestinian leaders in Ramallah on Monday.
Abbas said that “[US] ambassador in Tel Aviv David Friedman said they are building in their land, a son of a dog says they are building in their land, a settler and his family are settlers. The US ambassador in Tel Aviv. What to expect from him.”
The comment comes amid worsening ties between the Abbas government and the US President Donald Trump administration following Washington’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last December.
The Palestinian president also accused Hamas in carrying out a bomb attack targeting Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah during his visit to Gaza.
SOT, Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian President (Arabic): “America wants to separate the Strip from the West Bank so that there is no united Palestinian state. This must be known and we must recognise the truth and must not be blind to the truth anymore.”
SOT, Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian President (Arabic): “This plan was initiated by the administration of President Trump when it declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and decided to move its embassy to it and cut its aid for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency while considering the settlement legitimate, and this is what more than one American official said. First their ambassador in Tel Aviv David Friedman said they are building in their land, a son of a dog says they are building in their land, a settler and his family are settlers. The US ambassador in Tel Aviv. What to expect from him.” *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE* *JUMP CUT AT SOURCE*
SOT, Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian President (Arabic): “[As a result of] targeting of the convoy of the prime minister and the head of the General Intelligence and their accomplices, we have a number of young people in hospitals now with injured hands and ears. Where is their blood? There are many of them by the way. Where does it go and who carries the responsibility of their blood? And the assassination if it had succeeded, God forbid, would lead to disastrous consequences for the Palestinian people and open the door to a bloody civil war, God forbid. We can have a different reaction, but we are responsible and patriotic people and know what to do. They tried to kill two, and I can bring twenty and kill them in the square. Record that in the media, but we are responsible and we take responsibility.”
