(TASS) About 6,000 gunmen are trying to fight their way through towards eastern Aleppo, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

“The most serious situation in Syria is still around Aleppo,” the diplomat said. “Jihadists attacking from southwest continue their attempts to force a corridor towards eastern neighborhoods of the city,” she went on.

“According to different estimates, up to 6,000 gunmen are engaged in the operation, the tactical direction carried out by Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (former Jabhat al-Nusra) through the central headquarters,” she said.

The diplomat drew attention to close coordination of Nusra militants with other anti-governmental units in Hama and the Damask region. “Everywhere, terrorists are facing resolute rebuff,” Zakharova said.

The funny fact is it is estimated that there are about 9k gunmen besieged… Very poor strategy to hope breaking a siege with smaller numbers than the number of besieged ones. They’d need a 50k force at least…

Hopefully, they haven’t the means to their goals and these idiots end in the meat grinder. Well, the world ends with less religious fanatics, psychopaths and mercenaries. Not a great loss but I advocate methods to finish them much fastly and in serious numbers while avoiding the losses of militaries defending their country and civilians. It’s even sad that the Russians didn’t retained the lessons of the Afghan conflict as they were very interesting studies that have been cancelled : The COIN aircrafts end being 10-20 times cheaper to buy and operate than jets and 3-6 times cheaper to buy/operate… Read more »

If Russians have fielded one in numbers, it’d really be of great help
