BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:15 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a powerful assault against the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (ISIS) in the western countryside of Palmyra on Thursday, targeting the terrorist group’s positions near the T-4 Military Airport.
Led by the Tiger Forces and 800th Battalion of the Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the hilltops surrounding the small village of Sharifah; this resulted in a fierce battle on Thursday that lasted for nearly 6 hours.
With help from their Russian allies, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate all of the hilltops surrounding Sharifah, forcing the Islamic State terrorists to seek temporary refuge inside the aforementioned village in order to avoid sustaining anymore casualties.
According to a military source in east Homs, the Syrian Arab Army killed more than 50 Islamic State terrorists on Thursday, while also destroying 3 tanks, 1 armored vehicle, and 5 pick-up trucks mounted with 23mm machine guns.
In the coming hours, Sharifah is expected to be liberated by the Syrian Arab Army, as the Islamic State forces are surrounded at three flanks that overlook their positions inside the village.
