BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:05 P.M.) – The United Nations (UN) has said that around 40,000 people have become displaced because of the fighting between militants and government forces in rural Hama.
Most of the 40,000 are women and children who have been forced out of their homes.
Most of the displaced people fled to the nearby provinces of Homs, Latakia and Tartus according to the UN.
Last week, militant groups launched a powerful assault against the Syrian Army in the Hama countryside, capturing many sites from government forces. However, many of these sites have been recovered by the Syrian Army.
